This is a watercolor painting of the lighthouse at Hillsboro Point, Florida, as it looked over 100 years ago. Today it is a guide to all vessels navigating these waters. Vessels heading southward, after making Jupiter Inlet light, stay very close to the reef to avoid the current. The dangerous reef coming out of the Hillsboro Inlet forces them to give it a wide berth, and to go out into the Gulf Stream. Vessels coming across from the Bahama Banks can verify their position by this lighthouse. This light completed the system of lights on the Florida Reefs.
